Hey this is just something that you may want to do if you currently have a clearance and want to keep it active for the job market. aboout 3-6 months out apply for a couple of government jobs that require a clearance. This will keep your clearance active until it comes up for review. It might be helpful and get you some more bucks if you go to work with a DoD Contractor. _________________ Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way!

Very sound advice!!
(Also note: the DOD contractors in our area are called the "Beltway Bandits" hence the name of the MD/DC area chapter name _________________ God Speed, God Bless, Gotta GPS |

| I just renewed my TS about 3 years ago. I might just have to go talk to our security person to see when it does expire in case I do look at going federal requiring a clerence. Thanks for the info. |

Not exactly true on the clearance guys.
If you hold a clearance (S, TS, SCI etc) while in the service it does not go away when you retire. However, you officially will not have a clearance until you are in a position that requires one and the company you work for applies to have it re-activated.
A TS is good for 10 years without a reinvestigation. However, some jobs requires that the background must be within the last 5 years. If you are between the 5 and 10 year mark for the job, your SOL because of the backlog. I've got guys waiting for updated background checks on current TS clearances for the last 10 months. _________________ Masters Degree from the University of Gravity

I recently had to go through that process. I was lucky that my brother went through it in February so all I had to do was get the basics from him (family info, etc.). I don't know about him and his "in-laws", but I didn't find skeletons.... wait for it... wait... Oh alright!... I only found a bunch of NUTS!!! Anyway, I don't have to do that stupid thing for another ten years! Yea!! _________________ Coffee is for wimps. PASS THE ESPRESSO!! |
